Canal Societies
Canal Societies have been the life blood and driving force behind the renovation and protection of the UK waterways and associated heritage. They have inspired bands of willing volunteers to spend happy week ends clearing out what look like muddy ditches have renovated locks and researched and preserved the history and documentation.
They are a wonderful source of local knowledge for their own stretch of the waterways and the value of their enthusiasm and interest should not be underestimated in regards to the welfare of the canal system.
Not to mention the endless political campaigns on both local and national fronts to preserve the things they value.

was established in 1926 and has an Admiralty Warrant for members to fly a
defaced blue ensign. Members cruise the waters of the River Severn, the
Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel to Wales, the West of England and
Ireland.
